Charles Taylor owns a building running 22 illegal slot machines, just a half mile from a Lee County middle school.1

A reporter walked right in and counted them. In North Carolina, operating five or more is a felony. Taylor is the landlord, and he still hasn’t said what he knew.

Taylor’s backed by nearly $400,000 in dark money from groups that want to expand gambling in the state.3

The Assembly reports that a political group “entirely funded by sports-gambling interests” spent heavily to help Taylor win his primary.

Charles Taylor began his career as a lobbyist and then spent 20 years in politics.4

He says so himself. Taylor lists “lobbyist” among his past jobs, and he has held a seat on the Sanford City Council since 2007.

Taylor’s backed by thousands in campaign donations from the data center industry, which stands to make millions off building more data centers in our community.5

The man who runs the company behind a huge data center planned in Chatham County gave Taylor $6,800, the most the law allows.

When the county put a pause on new data centers, the company sued.

His own campaign reports show about $31,000 of the $65,000 he raised through June came from real estate and development donors.

Taylor paid his property taxes late ten years in a row.8

County records show Taylor was late on a property tax bill every year from 2015 through 2024. Eighteen times, the county had to garnish his pay or his bank account to collect.

The first year he paid on time was 2025, months before he filed to run for the House.
